We have got a fair sized garden. We inherited a thigh high lawn and some very weedy front borders about six years ago. We managed to get the lawn under control and then weeded the front borders. Then sorting out the house took prority! (it was in a worse state than the garden) Now the garden is slowly taking shape, it has to be functional though so all the family can enjoy it. I am more familiar with vegetable growing, but don't have a veg patch here (too many cats and not enough spare time at the present). I am quickly learning more about "flower" gardening, mostly thanks to the lovely people on RG!
